It’s a Rugs Life!

The onset of winter has again provoked increased rug problems. Of course there is always the ‘last-minuiter’ that turns up in pouring rain, “Can you just sew on this leg strap?” Or, “Could you just sew up this tear while I wait?” Well, of course we try to help but please try to come in working hours.

Increased use of rugs is a natural response to climate change with wetter winters. Many pounds can be saved by simple, common sense rug maintenance. Dirty rugs retain water more than clean rugs so keeping them clean helps stop rot. When not in use rugs should be clean in rodent-free storage thus preserving the waterproofing and preventing holes. Good rug care can extend their usage for many years. If you are rich enough to buy a new rug each year please let us have your old ones to recycle. It would be much appreciated mutually if you came to us to repair/clean or waterproof your rug in the summer months rather than the autumn.

Dinty or Gillian are here to freely advise you on your rug fitting, type or repair at the lowest cost. You will find that few tack shops provide a comprehensive service on site for rugs but we have many, many years of cleaning, fitting and repair experience all on site. Our Saturday morning sales have become a magnet for those seeking a bargain, not only for rugs but a full range of discounted tack, much of which is second-hand. These sales have now become a significant factor in the Charity’s fund-raising. Just give us a call to find when the next sale will be. Also, if you want to sell tack or anything from your car boot on our Open Day, 18th May, book now.

Finally, we wish you a happy Christmas and prosperous New Year. As this is the season of goodwill please remember that the Rescue Centre even works on the 25th Dec. for no financial reward! Your donations keep the pulse of ponies pounding!

Best regards, John & Gillian Slack
